3 Colleges Reportedly Eyeing Local Hoops Star

The four-star recruit who spent his high school career at Gill St. Bernard’s was planning on wearing purple in college after committing to Northwestern University late in 2012.

With Sina now on the free market, rumors of Indiana, Alabama, and New Jersey’s Seton Hall University recruiting the point guard have emerged, according to sippinonpurple.com, a website for Northwestern University sports.

That same website reported officials from Alabama flew to New Jersey to speak with Sina over the weekend. Sina’s father, Mergin, told ESPN last week his son’s commitment to Northwestern would be heavily based on the coaching decision made at the school.

Northwestern’s assistant coach, Fred Hill, is still in the mix as a candidate to take over the program. It was Hill’s steadfast recruitment and relationship with Sina that helped bring the recruit to the Midwest.

“He recruited me basically for four straight years which was pretty cool,’’ Sina said in December. “He’s the first coach I had a relationship with which really helped big time. He has seen me from my freshman to my senior year so he has seen my progression for four years. He’s always been there.’’
