Doctors and Lawyers Go to Bat For United Way

Proceeds of 31st annual game go to United Way of Northern New Jersey.

Area doctors and lawyers are invited to cheer on their Sussex County colleagues in the 31st annual Doctor Lawyer Softball Game at Lodestar Park in Fredon on Sunday, August 25 at 3 p.m. The annual charity game pits doctors against lawyers, with proceeds benefiting United Way of Northern New Jersey.

This year’s game will determine which group can claim supremacy, with each side having won 15 games apiece since the tradition started in 1982.

“The importance of the game is to raise as much money as we can for United Way, while having fun in a friendly, family environment”, said Dr. Nick DeBitetto, a head coach for the doctor’s team.

Last year, the game raised $4,000 for United Way, with the teammates each making a donation to play. The game is free to attend.

“We thank our doctors and lawyers for their dedicated support these past 30 years,” said Mary Emilius, United Way’s chief professional officer in Sussex County. “It’s a testament to their commitment to this community that this charity game has such lasting power.”
