Hopatcong Army Veteran Among Distinguished Service Medal Honorees

Medals will be distributed by the Morris County Freeholder Board Wednesday in Morristown.

On the day that the U.S. recalls one of its darkest days, the Morris County Select Board of Freeholders will pay tribute to the nation's best and brightest.

On Sept. 11, the freeholders will present Morris County Distinguished Military Service medals to 12 area veterans in recognition of their work for the nation.

Among the recipients is Anthony F. Semiz of Hopatcong, who served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, from June 1953 to February 1954. He is also the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. Following his service, he went on to become Professional Bowling Association star Teata Semiz, ended up winning more than 50 national PBA tournaments and was inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame in 1990.
