Hopatcong Preps Hybrid School Schedule For Fall
There will be a combination of in person and virtual instruction in alternating weeks.
HOPATCONG, NJ - The Hopatcong School District has unveiled an alternating schedule of classes that will mix virtual and in person instruction in differing weeks.
School is scheduled to begin Sept. 3.
Students in grades Kindergarten and Grades 2-12, students will be divided up into two groups: "A students" and "B students". A students will attend school in person Monday - Friday for the first week and then attend virtual only instruction the second week. B students will attend virtual-only instruction the first week and in-person instruction the second week.

The reasons for half-days rather than full days are many, officials said. Most notably, half days are the result of students not taking Physical Education or having lunch/recess in school. The restrictions from the NJDOE have made it difficult to keep students safe at school during Physical Education and lunch/recess and therefore the district opted to have students do this at home. When removed from the school day, the day is shortened.
Additionally, buses are tiered and the schedule partially hinges on what neighboring school districts do.
Key points:
- All faculty members must wear masks
- Students must wear masks at all times, this is a change from the Governor which occurred in early August.
- Changes to Grading Procedures
- Passing Grade = 60
- Floor Grade = 50
- Teachers will be in school for full days
- P.E. will be entirely virtual.
- Health will be virtual in grades 8-12.
- Lunch will take place at home
- Students buying lunch or receiving Free/Reduced Lunch will have those "to-go"
- While HS students will change classrooms throughout the day, this will be discouraged and avoided as much as practicable in the lower grades
- Students who receive free or reduced lunch will have the opportunity to receive meals for multiple days at a time, even during weeks when they are not in school.
- Labs at the HS will likely be virtual due to the inability to share equipment
- Specials in K-7 will take place in the General Education classroom
- Only half the number of daily classes will be offered each day to allow for continuity of instruction, with the exception of Fridays, where students will go through an entire day's schedule, albeit shortened periods.
