Hopatcong's Easter Egg Hunt Bigger Than Ever

More than 200 kids storm Modick Park for plastic, candy-filled eggs.

It was like Pamplona, only with less bulls, more children and 3,000 plastic eggs.

Hopatcong held its third annual Easter Egg hunt Saturday at Modick Park for about 225 kids. Recreation Coordinator Sue Parichuk said it might have been the borough's biggest hunt yet.

The kids started at borough hall and each were allowed 12 candy-filled eggs, which were prepared by Parichuk and Hopatcong senior citizens. Volunteers spent the morning hiding eggs throughout the park. And some, like recreation commission member Sal Guglielmello, walked throughout the park dropping eggs as kids scooped them up.

The children assembled with parents in the borough hall parking lot at 12:30 p.m. And once the smaller children were given a head start, police blocked traffic on Hopatchung Road, letting the kids sprint across the street and into the park.

An Easter Bunny took photos with borough children and families on a park bench.
