House Explodes Near Sussex School, Rocks Parts Of NJ (VIDEO)

A New Jersey house was a "total loss" after an explosion that was felt 20 miles away on Tuesday night, officials said. The house exploded across the street from a school, and a video below shows what happened at the school.

The house exploded at 11:05 p.m. in Hardyston, Sussex County, across the street from Wallkill Valley Regional High School, according to the Hardyston Township Volunteer Fire Department. Nobody was home at the time of explosion.

A neighboring house has window damage, fire officials said. Wallkill High School has some structural damage and will be closed on Wednesday, while Grumm Road will also be closed indefinitely, according to fire officials.

The explosion was powerful enough that it blew open locked front doors, cracked cement walls and sent ceiling tiles and light fixtures flying, according to nj.com, forcing the closure of the school building for two days as investigators checked for structural damage.
