SPARTA, NJ — Much like last year, it looks like winter waited until the last minute before packing a punch in Sparta, with an early March snow storm dumping a significant amount of snow on the town.
According to a National Weather Service public spotter, Sparta got 7.7 inches of snow by 5:00 a.m. on Monday. Hopatcong was not reporting totals by 9:30 a.m. Essex County saw the most snow, with some towns getting over 9 inches.
And the March snow isn't over yet. There's a 30 percent chance of more snow on Friday night, following a chilly first week of March.
