New Superintendent Approved for Sparta Schools

SPARTA, NJ – A new superintendent was approved for a three-and-a-half-year contract at the Sparta Board of Education meeting Thursday night, Tapinto reports. Dr. Michael Rossi will start his new role Dec. 1, 2016.

“I am quite certain you will do well here," current superintendent Dennis Tobin told Rossi at the meeting. "We have an excellent staff, outstanding students, supportive community and cooperative board.”

Rossi has a lot of experience in education – he's served as the superintendent of the Madison school district since 2012, and before this was a superintendent in Roxbury and Lopatcong.

While many people at the Board of Education meeting expressed sadness that Tobin is leaving, they sincerely welcomed Rossi on board.

“I am happy to be given the opportunity to be one of the first people to publicly welcome Dr. Rossi to the Sparta School District," Dr. Daniel Johnson, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Staff Development said in a statement. "Dr. Rossi’s reputation in the state of New Jersey precedes him. He comes to us with a wealth of experience leading successful school districts."

Rossi’s contract with Madison was for $157,500, and will now be $167,500 with the Sparta Board of Education, Tapinto says.
