News Brief: Elks Lodge Gives Hopatcong Golf $4,000

Team became parent-funded in 2010.

The Lake Hopatcong Elks Lodge presented Hopatcong High School's golf team with a $4,000 check Friday night.

The money will be used to fund the parent-funded team's greens fees, transportation and shirts, team parent Randy Sickles said. The team also must fund head coach Dominick Schiavone's $4,000 stipend.

The golf team, along with the marching band, became parent-funded when Hopatcong's Board of Education cut the program after learning it would receive $1.7 million less in state aid than the year before.
