North Jersey Bagel Shop Owner Failed To Pay $200K+ In Taxes, Officials Say
Between 2021 and 2024, Kristian J. Vozza failed to file taxes on behalf of his bagel shop, according to authorities.
SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ — The owner of a Sussex County bagel shop has been indicted after failing to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes, according to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.
Kristian J. Vozza, 48, of Sparta, faces several charges following an investigation into his business, The Bagel Bistro, located in Newton.
According to the indictment, Vozza did not remit sales tax to the Division of Taxation from 2021 to 2024 and did not file taxes on behalf of the bagel shop during that time.

A 2025 investigation by the NJ Division of Taxation’s Office of Criminal Investigation determined that Vozza failed to remit a total of $205,336 in sales tax to the state.
“Taxes are fundamental to a government that provides for all citizens,” said Attorney General Jennifer Davenport. “Paying taxes is not optional, and those who choose to ‘opt out’ will be held accountable and be required to pay their fair share.”

Vozza has been indicted on one count of second-degree theft by failure to make required disposition of property received, four counts of third-degree failure to file tax returns, and 16 counts of third-degree failure to turn over collected, withheld taxes.
The Bagel Bistro in Newton is still operating regularly.
