National Swap Ideas Day is observed annually on September 10th. This day inspires us to share a creative or helpful idea with someone in exchange for their thoughts in return. Magic happens when a community of people joins forces to bring a plan to fruition. It may start as only a suggestion of an idea, but when it’s get connected to another idea a larger more tangible impressions starts to develop. Swapping ideas creates a continuous spark.
In our NJ lake regions this summer, New Jersey water experts agreed that battling Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) in the state’s lakes is the responsibility of everyone. The public forum at the Lake Mohawk Country Club in Sparta August 20th presented the science of the situation and noted cause for action. Rutgers Cooperative Extension Specialist in Water Resources highlighted a variety of small and large projects, such as individual “rain gardens” in residential homes, and larger storm water filtering systems to help reduce the amount of phosphorus and other cyanobacteria nutrients entering the watershed. The presentation fostered a brainstorming mindset. The event brought collective feedback and ideas for a solution. All four mayors that are on Lake Hopatcong have made a pledge to share their ideas and work together on a solution to clean up the lake. For these mayors swapping ideas will be more than a day.
