Star Ledger: Hopatcong resident, Rutgers Running Back Joe Martinek's Injury Worse Than First Thought

Martinek could miss team's next game.

Hopatcong native and Rutgers starting running back Joe Martinek could miss Sept. 25's game against North Carolina, according to the Star Ledger.

The newspaper reported Scarlet Knights head coach Greg Schiano said in Monday morning's Big East conference call that Martinek suffered a left ankle injury in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 19-14 win over Florida International. Two medical staffers helped him off the field.

Martinek is Rutgers' leading rusher. He graduated from Hopatcong High School in 2007 as the state's all-time rushing leader.
