If you love the outdoors and are looking for a quick weekend getaway, there are some great campgrounds in your local area.

Whether you have a camping trailer or prefer "roughing it" in a tent, here's a sneak peek at 3 of the top campgrounds right in your backyard!

The Great Divide

Located in Green Township, in the town of Newton, the Great Divide offers large, wooded campsites, a small lake for kayaking and fishing, and a large swimming pool. There's plenty to keep the kid busy too! The Great Divide has a playground, basketball court, horse shoes, game room, and outdoor pavilion for activities.

Camping during the colder months? Cozy up to the fire pit or build one at your own campsite - all sites have fire rings and firewood delivery is available.

If you prefer a more open campsite layout, the Great Divide can cater to your needs. You can take your pick of over 270 sites. There are also seasonal sites available for anyone looking to call the Great Divide their second home.

If you're towing a camper, some campsites offer full hook-up, which includes water, sewer, electric, and cable. If you prefer "glamping" over camping, you'll want to ask for these amenities.

The landscape at this campground is a true representation of the Sussex County area, which means hills! If you don't enjoy long walks or uphill climbs, you might want to rent a golf cart during your stay. The campground does feature a small office and store with camping essentials like milk, coffee, candy for the kids, and ingredients for smores!

Pleasant Acres is located in the town of Sussex, in Wantage Township. This small campground sits atop beautiful mountains, offering guests a breathtaking view from both the playground and the pool.

What camping trip is complete without delicious food? Pleasant Acres has a well-stocked office, convenience store, and snack bar.

If you and your family love animals, then this is the campground for you. Has your child ever milked a cow? Pet a goat? Or caught a pig? How about taken a hayride to see cows and ponies? Your children will love the farm animals at Pleasant Acres.

When they aren't petting and playing, there are plenty of activities for the whole family. The two private fishing lakes on site are chock-full of sunny and catfish, allowing for hours of fishing fun. If more active sports excite you, Pleasant Acres has both basketball and volleyball courts, as well as mini-golf and horse shoes.

This scenic campground is home to over 300 wooded sites with full-hook up including electric, water, and sewer. If you need to bring work with you, the campground offers WiFi as well. And if you're camping with friends, Pleasant Acres has something not all campgrounds have - buddy sites.

On these sites, travelers with campers or RVs can set-up their trailers to face one another. Be sure you like your neighbor, because they'll be greeting you as you step out your door each morning!

Panther Lake Camping Resort

This resort is the closest of the campgrounds to the Hopatcong/Sparta area. Located in Andover, Panther Lake Camping Resort offers scenic views nestled on a 45-acre lake. If you're looking to spend your trip fishing, this is the campground for you! The lake also offers boating and is surrounded by a sandy beach.

Like most camping resorts, Panther Lake offers wooded sites for both RVs and tent campers. If you're new to the world of camping and prefer more comfortable accommodations, you can rent a cabin.

There's no shortage of activities at this Sussex resort. Kids can enjoy a game of basketball or tennis day or not with Panther Lake's lit-courts! Spend some time in the game room, playing mini-golf or shuffle board and ping-pong. If you're camping during the summer months, you'll love swimming in the pool or relaxing in the hot tub. Scheduled activities include arts and crafts, family movie night, and crafts.

If you're towing a camper to Panther Lake, it's important to note that not all sites are full hook-up. If you reserve one that isn't, you'll still have water, electric, and cable but no sewer. The campground does offer on site pump-outs Monday through Friday for a minimal fee.

Many people call Panther Lake resort home with seasonal sites. You can also rent sites based on weekly and monthly rates. If you want to experience this beautiful 160-acre resort, you'll need to book between the months of April and October.
