Woman Killed, Child Injured In North Jersey Dump Truck Collision

Both the woman and child were evacuated by helicopter following the multi-vehicle crash.

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ — A woman is dead, and a child is seriously injured after a multi-vehicle crash in Sussex County recently, police say.

On Thursday, around 9:30 a.m., police were called to the intersection of Route 23 and Mabie Street in Franklin Borough on reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

Authorities learned that a Ford SUV, traveling northbound on Route 23, had been t-boned by a dump truck, pushing it into the southbound lanes, where it was hit a second time by a Toyota SUV.

The crash also sent the dump truck into a nearby utility pole, disrupting power to the immediate area, police added.

The occupants of the Ford, an adult woman and a female child, were seriously injured in the crash and Medevac'd to a nearby hospital.

The driver of the Toyota and the driver of the dump truck were also rushed to a hospital to be treated for injuries.

The Ford driver, whose identity is not being released until next-of-kin notification processes, was pronounced dead in the hospital.

Authorities have not released an update on the status of the child.

The crash remains under investigation by local, county, and state law enforcement entities. No criminal charges have been announced as of Monday.
