Woman Tailgating Cop Car Was Drunk, Had Child In The Car: Sparta Police

Sparta Police say the Rumson woman was driving drunk with a child in the car when she tailgated a cop car.

SPARTA, NJ— A Rumson woman was arrested after Sparta Police say she tailgated a police car while drunk.

Police say she had a minor in the car with her when she was pulled over on Monday morning, but did not say how old the child was.

After noticing a 2013 Lexus was driving too close to him on Route 15, Patrol Officer Taylor May ran the car's registration, and found that it was expired. May stopped the car, and began to suspected the driver, a 50-year-old Rumson woman, was drunk, according to a press release.

The driver failed a series of field sobriety tests, and was arrested.

She was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, following too closely, expired registration, failure to produce registration and failure to produce insurance card. She was also charged criminally with driving while intoxicated with a minor in the car.

She was released to a sober adult with a pending court date.
