YMCA Brings a Music Performance to May 2nd Pot Luck Lunch Menu
The Cracked Walnuts go on banjo and the washboard for their Sing Along Songs

The monthly Sussex County Y Active Adults Day event welcomes Jan and Jeff Ausfahl of The Crackled Walnuts Thursday May 2nd. This performance was made possible by Kelly Roque & Family. It is the Y’s engaging and entertaining invite to gather your children, grandchildren and family to sing along with Jan and Jeff on the banjo and washboard. They will be performing a selection of “Let’s Sing Down Memory Lane” songs. The covered dish sharing Pot Luck Lunch buffet starts off shortly before the scheduled program at 12:15 PM on Thursday May 2nd.
Jan and Jeff Ausfahl have worked behind the scenes of Broadway and film musicals in New York City. When they moved to the hills of Pennsylvania, they morphed their musical tunes to match the panoramic history of American sounds that guides The Cracked Walnuts musical venues. Jeff replaced his jazz guitar with a banjo and Jan picked up the washboard and penny whistle. They have been entertaining folks from New England to Florida with “knee-slappin’ songs from the Colonial days to the Civil War to Prohibition to the Beverly Hillbillies”.
Did you know that singing along can be very good for you? In a December 2017 article of Psychology Today it states –“New research corroborates anecdotal evidence that singing your heart out in a group makes people happier by reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and loneliness” And “Their final conclusion was that people who participated in a community singing group maintained or improved their mental health. And – “The researchers speculate that the combination of singing and socializing was key to optimizing mental health because it promoted ongoing feelings of belonging and overall well-being.” It appears that May’s presentation continues with the YMCA’s community health and fitness guest speaker topics but, this time it’s being done in song.
