HOPEWELL, NJ — A piece of Hopewell history got its moment in the spotlight Saturday as residents and officials celebrated the restoration of the Hopewell Railroad Station.
The borough hosted a dedication ceremony at 10 a.m., following coffee with Mayor Ryan Kennedy at the David H. Knights Community Room.
Built in 1876, the station once served travelers headed to New York City and Philadelphia. Today, residents can rent the station's community room for meetings and gatherings.
"The work preserves one of the Borough's most recognizable landmarks for generations to come," the borough said.
The exterior renovation received support from a matching grant through the Preserve New Jersey Historic Preservation Fund. The funding is administered by the New Jersey Historic Trust.
The celebration also featured a performance by Hopewell Valley Central High School's Con Brio choir.
"The Borough extends special thanks to Peter Lindsay, member of the board of the New Jersey Historic Trust, for speaking at the event, and to Judith Murphy of the New Jersey Historic Trust for her support and guidance throughout the project," the borough said.
