Hopewell Township Marks Pride Month With Flag Raising, Proclamation

The annual ceremony came on the heels of neighboring Hopewell Borough's first-ever Pride flag raising.

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, NJ — Pride flags are flying across Hopewell Valley this June, with Hopewell Township holding its annual flag-raising ceremony Monday — just days after neighboring Hopewell Borough raised the Pride flag for the first time in its history.

Hopewell Township kicked off Pride Month with its annual Pride Flag Raising Ceremony at the Municipal Building on Monday, drawing what officials described as a wonderful turnout from the community.

The ceremony was followed by the regular Township Committee meeting, where Pride Month was formally recognized with a proclamation.

"Thank you to everyone who came out to support!" the township said in its announcement.

The township's ceremony followed a milestone in Hopewell Borough, where officials, residents and community members gathered outside Borough Hall the previous Thursday evening for the municipality's first-ever Pride flag-raising ceremony, marking the start of Pride Month with a proclamation, reflections on LGBTQ history and calls for continued advocacy and inclusion, MercerMe reported.
