BREAKING: 'Suspicious Device' Closes Major Howell Area Roadway

The road was reopened around 11 a.m.

The State Police bomb unit was assisting Marlboro police with the suspicious device found on a bus. Route 9 was closed both ways while it was being checked out.

NJ state police tweeted: “High 5 to citizens reporting suspicious activity on bus. No threat, but that’s the way it’s supposed to work. See something say something.”

At 8:30 a.m. today, Bus Route #67, which was headed from Newark to Lakewood, was stopped by Marlboro Police on a report of a suspicious package, according to NJ Transit police.

The bus was stopped at Route 9 south at Robertsville Road. The 15 passengers on board were transferred to another bus so they could continue their travels, according to police.

Route 9 was briefly shut in both directions at the intersection of Route 9 and Robertsville Road. A New Jersey Transit Police Department K-9 unit cleared the scene. Marlboro police is the lead agency. Route 9 is now open in both directions.

News reports that a person holding a clock may have led to the disruption.

Police reported that the incident is connected to an investigation on a bus, so U.S. 9 was closed in both directions in Marlboro, according to WABC-TV.

The New Jersey State Police said they got the report around 8:30 a.m, and were advised that a suspicious device was found on board a bus, according to the report.
