Ceremony In Howell Set For Soldier Memorial Field
Memorial Day will be marked Monday for the first time at Soldier Memorial Field, which will be dedicated at that time.
HOWELL, N.J.—The Veterans of Foreign Wars will have a flag raising and Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. at Soldier Memorial Field in Howell. It will also have a service at 11:30 a.m. at Lutz Park in Farmingdale, both on Monday, May 30.
This year, the ceremony includes a dedication of Soldier Memorial Field, which will be used for the first time this Memorial Day for the ceremony after a project to relocate the monuments there.
Veterans monuments were relocated through an Eagle Scout project by Brendan Mueller of Troop 300, which is chartered by St. Veronica’s Church, Howell.

He organized a project to move monuments from the former municipal complex on Preventorium Road to Soldier Memorial Park on Lakewood-Farmingdale Road.
Memorial Day honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. It was originally known as Decoration Day and originated in the years following the Civil War, according to History.com. It became an official federal holiday in 1971.
