Changes Made to Township Recycling Program
Residents can now recycle more while keeping things organized in a simpler way

With a new year comes new guidelines for the Howell Township Recycling program aimed at making the process easier for residents, while making the town a greener place to live.
For the curbside recycling program, mixed paper now has to be recycled, while other recyclables including cans and bottles can now be put in the same container. According to a flier from the township, lids may also be placed on containers and all containers must have a recycling label. Those labels can be acquired from the Department of Public Works.
Among the items that do not have to be in the container are extra amounts of cardboard and newspapers that can be tied up and put next to the cans. Things in the cans should be items like aluminum and tin cans, pourable bottles as well as glass jars and bottles.

While there are a variety of containers that could apply to the recycling program, items cannot be wrapped in tape or bagged if they are to be collected. The Department of Public Works is asking that all containers be put out the night before and put in an place where they will be easily seen by the drivers.
The curbside recycling program is held every other week. The only days that it is not picked up are New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. If those days coincide with a scheduled pick up day, recycling will be collected the following Saturday. A full calendar of pickup dates can be found on the township's website.
