FAULTY WORKMANSHIP MAY NOT BE COVERED BY YOUR INSURANCE

BUYER BEWARE

I see everyone putting on new roofs, getting new HVAC systems, paint jobs, new driveways, well you get the idea.  Be aware that licensed and insured contractors are no guarantee that if they perform faulty workmanship that you will be covered for damage by their insurance company or even your insurance company.  The contractor’s insurance usually just covers them in case of an accident not you.  It usually doesn't cover you in case of faulty workmanship.  Your homeowner’s insurance policy most likely has an exclusion clause for faulty workmanship and it means just what it says, it excludes coverage for faulty workmanship.  The kicker is if you are unfortunate to suffer damages from faulty workmanship and try and make a claim, assuming your policy has this clause, not only will you be denied damages but the event will be considered a claim on your policy.  As the Church Lady from Saturday Night Live used to say...” Well isn't that special”.  Be careful and check out your insurance policy.
