Fire Damage Forces Family From Home In Howell: Police

HOWELL, NJ — A fire in a bedroom forced a Howell Township family from their home on Route 524 on Tuesday evening, police said.

The fire, reported about 6 p.m. on Tuesday, was contained to the bedroom, Detective Sgt. Peter Kuppler said Wednesday. No injuries were reported.

The four family members of the home were out safely by the time police arrived, he said.

The Adelphia Fire Company responded ad was able to extinguish the fire without further incident, but smoke damaged the rest of the home and it was deemed unliveable. The Howell Township Office of Emergency Management assisted the family with relocation as well as putting them in contact with the American Red Cross, Kuppler said.

The following agencies/units responded and assisted: Adelphia Fire Company 19-2, Freewood Acres Fire Company 19-5, Southard Fire Company 19-3, the Howell Township Fire Bureau, Farmingdale Fire Company, Freehold Township Fire Company 16-1, and the Jackson Township Fire Department. Other responding agencies, Farmingdale First Aid, Howell First Aid, Howell Police EMS, and the Howell Township Office of Emergency Management.

The investigation into the cause of the fire was continuing, he said.
