First Residents Move Into Howell Income-Restricted Development

HOWELL, NJ – Barnegat-based developer Walters Group Apartments has announced that its newest development, 1000 Cornerstone Drive's Cornerstone at Howell, has just welcomed its first tenants.

The brand-new LEED-Gold and Energy Star-certified housing development now touts five occupied buildings, with four additional buildings (with a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments) currently under construction. The developer expects the income-restricted community to be completed by the end of the year.

Cornerstone at Howell is open to individuals and families who do not make more than 60 percent of the county’s median income. Rental rates are based on income, family size and the number of bedrooms.

The developer is currently scheduling virtual and phone appointments to tour units.

The community offers a variety of amenities and key fob access for residents. Perks include a full-size washer/dryer in every unit, a fully-equipped kitchen with granite countertops, outdoor BBQ and picnic area, children’s tot lot, a clubhouse with a fitness center, public computer workstations and on-site management and maintenance.

Residents also benefit from activities and events offered through a social services coordinator.

“We are so pleased to see families move into their new sustainable homes,” says Joe Del Duca, partner and director of affordable housing for the developer. “Cornerstone at Howell is important to the community, and is an example of Monmouth County benefitting from a successful public-private partnership.”

New resident Nafessa Johnson recently moved in with her five-year-old son, according to a news release. “It’s quiet and everyone is very pleasant. There are no loud noises at night and I can finally sleep peacefully,” Johnson said.

Johnson says she was drawn to the development's well-maintained property and modern apartments, which offer private entrances and plenty of storage space. The children's play area is outfitted with an adaptive swing, suitable for children with special needs also benefited her son. “He loves it,” she said.
