Free Overdose Response Training Will Be Offered in Howell

The Howell Alliance and Howell Police Department are sponsoring training Aug. 29 on how to use naloxone to reverse an opioid overdose.

HOWELL, NJ — The Howell Alliance and Howell Police Department are hosting a free naloxone training program in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day.

Naloxone, often known as Narcan, can reverse an opioid overdose and hopefully save a life, and this session will provide training on how to use naloxone.

The training will take place on Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Howell Township Municipal Building, 4567 Route 9 North, second floor, according to a post on the township Facebook site.

The training is first come, first served with no advanced registration. It is open to anyone at risk of an opioid overdose, as well as their family and friends.

All participants will receive education on how to administer naloxone to reverse a heroin/opioid overdose. The Howell Alliance will have a substance use prevention and mental health awareness resources table.

The training, provided by JSAS Health Care., will include free naloxone nasal spray kits and treatment vouchers.

The Opioid Overdose Prevention Project is made possible by funding from the New Jersey Governor's Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, Department of Human Services-Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services, and JSAS Health Care, Inc. Narcan is one brand of naloxone.
