Artists see the world through different eyes, and GCU’s seniors in the B.F.A. in Graphic Design and Multimedia program are no exception.
“I see art in everything around me—shapes, lines, colors, typefaces—everything,” says Christina Pigman of Avon-by-the-Sea, New Jersey. “The world is a series of compositions, each waiting to be expressed on another canvas.”
Christina, along with Melissa Petraglia of Howell, New Jersey, and Amanda MacPhee of Frederick, Maryland, will showcase their artistic accomplishments in their senior portfolio exhibit May 5–9 in Georgian Court University’s M. Christina Geis Art Gallery. There will be an artist’s reception on Monday, May 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the gallery.

“I see things in the brightest light imaginable,” says Amanda, who works in photography and other media. “Light is the primary element for a photographer and without it there would only be dark nothingness. My photographs reflect that magic and hope, while also capturing the beauty and joy of a single moment.”
The works on display will include a variety of media representing everything from commercial advertisements and graphic instructions on making a “messy” peanut butter and jelly sandwich to dazzling photographs of GCU’s dance students and the iconic Asbury Park boardwalk.

“Each student has a unique style and a strong sense of creativity,” says Geraldine Velasquez, Ed.D., GCU professor of art, who notes that the seniors have had successful internships and had their works used by nonprofits.
