Howell Homeowner Interrupts Burglary In Progress, Police Say

The resident investigated a noise and found the man in his home, police said. The burglar ran away.

HOWELL, NJ -- A Howell Township man who heard a noise confronted a burglar in his home Monday afternoon, chasing the burglar off, police said.

Police were called about 1 p.m. Wednesday to home on Golden Way for the report of a burglary in progress, Detective Sgt. Christian Antunez said.

The homeowner told police he was home alone and heard someone ring the doorbell a few times, Antunez said, but he did not answer the door.

About half an hour later the homeowner heard a noise in the house and went downstairs to investigate, he told police. At that time he discovered a male subject standing inside his house. He confronted the suspect, who fled, Antunez said.

Several patrol officers, detectives and K-9 responded to the scene. However, due to the massive wooded area the suspect could not be located, Antunez said. The homeowner interrupted the burglary before anything could be stolen, he said. It appears the burglar made entry by breaking open a basement window, he said.
