Howell Man Faces DWI, Cocaine Charges After Lakehurst Stop

Police stopped the car early Saturday morning on Route 37.

LAKEHURST, NJ -- A Howell man is facing charges of driving while intoxicated and cocaine possession after a motor vehicle stop on Route 37 in the early hours of Saturday morning, police said.

Lonnie Sherry, 35, of Howell faces multiple charges after the stop, Lakehurst Police Chief Eric Higgins said.

Sherry’s 2015 Audi was stopped by Lakehurst Officer Scott Devecka about 12:30 a.m. after Devecka observed the car speeding and not staying in its lane on Route 37, Higgins said.

Upon approaching the driver, later identified as Sherry, Devecka saw he was was exhibiting signs of being under the influence, Higgins said. Devecka conducted field sobriety tests that Sherry failed, and then arrested him. After he was arrested, cocaine was found in Sherry’s possession, Higgins said.

Sherry was taken back to the Lakehurst Police Department, where he was processed and charged with possession of cocaine, driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to breath tests, reckless operation, failure to maintain lane, and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, Higgins said. Sherry was released on summonses.
