Howell Meals On Wheels Program Needs Volunteers
A growing client list and the recent departure of some volunteers has created a need for people assisting with deliveries.
HOWELL, NJ — The Howell Meals on Wheels program is seeking help to address a growing need for volunteers to deliver meals in the township.
According to a post on the Howell Happenings NJ Facebook page, the program, run through the Howell Senior Services Department in cooperation with the Interfaith Neighbors provides and delivers lunches to about 60 seniors currently.
"Recently a few of our volunteers have stopped participating; at the same time, new seniors are being added into the program, causing a bit of overload on the current volunteers," the post said. "For the short term, some of the Howell Senior Center volunteers and staff are stepping up to help with deliveries."

Anyone who can help out with the deliveries one day a week — the deliveries take place between 10 a.m. and noon along six routes — and what's needed is a car and a willingness to spend a little time making a homebound senior's day a bit more enjoyable.
"The actual time needed depends on the number of seniors on a given route and how talkative you and the senior want to be," the the post said.
