Howell Planners Approve 7-Eleven, Gas Station On Route 9

The Exxon gas station on Strickland Road is set to be demolished to make way for a 7-Eleven convenience store and fueling stations.

HOWELL, NJ - An application set to construct a 7-Eleven convenience store and adjacent gas station on Route 9 North has been unanimously approved by Howell planners.

The gas station currently sitting at the intersection of Route 9 and Strickland Road (639 Route 9 North) is slated for demolition.

Applicant SAP American Choice Inc. sought preliminary and final major site plan approval at the April 1 hearing before the planning board, as well as permission to raise the canopy and other improvements as well as the construction of a 2,999-square-foot convenience store and a gas station with six fuel dispensers and 12 fuel stations.

The 7-Eleven at Route 9 and Casino Drive just .6 miles away will move into the nearly 3,000-foot space.

The application also calls for 25 parking spaces with landscaping, lighting, trash facilities and storm water management infrastructure at the site.

Fuel is set to be delivered around four to five times per week, with one or two store deliveries via tractor-trailer weekly, each delivery lasting for 30 and 45 minutes. One or two daily deliveries can be expected via box truck, each lasting between 10 and 15 minutes.

According to testimony, the site is proposed for 24-hour use with three employees and two gas station attendants.
