Howell Students OK After Bus Hits Pole On Route 547: Officials

Police said the driver suffered a minor injury in the crash, which remains under investigation.

HOWELL, NJ — A school bus carrying Howell Township elementary school students struck a utility pole Monday afternoon but no student was injured, the school district said.

Howell Township police said the mini bus was driving south on Route 547 when it ran off the road and hit the pole at about 2:50 p.m. There were six students from Memorial Elementary School, a bus aide and the driver on board; only the driver, Jennifer Salus, was injured. Police said she suffered an injury to her hand.

The children were released either to their parents or the school nurse.

The bus is owned by D.A.G. Transportation of Lakewood, and Salus and the bus company are cooperating, police said. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Photos posted by The Lakewood Scoop showed the bus had hit the pole head-on.

Howell school officials posted statement to the district's Facebook page about 4 p.m. that said school officials were on site along with first responders, and that the school had been in contact with parents of the students on the bus at the time of the crash.
