Is Lidl Coming To Howell?

A posting on a commercial website that initially indicated the German grocery store chain might replace Best Buy. Would you be in favor?

HOWELL, NJ — Virtually from the moment Best Buy announced it would be closing its Howell store, discussion about what would replace it has buzzed around town.

Would the town get a coveted Trader Joe's, or a Wegmans to replace tech heaven with grocery heaven?

It appears the answer is not a Trader Joe's or Wegmans, but a Lidl instead. A posting by the Howell Happenings NJ Facebook page on Monday night indicated that Paramount Realty, which manages the Howell Plaza at 4250 Route 9, posted information that showed a Lidl replacing the Best Buy. The link showed that information into the early hours of Tuesday morning.

However, as of 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the Lidl information had been removed and information on the Best Buy, which closed in early November, was back in its place.

An email to Lidl's media information address was not answered by midafternoon. A phone message and email to Paramount was not answered immediately either.

Lidl has been expanding its reach in New Jersey in recent months. The German discount grocer opened stores in Eatontown, Union, and in Hazlet, NJ.com reported, and a store that has been in the works for months in Lacey Township is finally underway.

What are your thoughts? Would you like a Lidl?
