Man's Death Remains A Mystery In Howell; Autopsy Set

Authorities are asking the public for any information about how the man wound up dead on Hurley Pond Road on Friday.

HOWELL, NJ — Authorities are continuing to investigate what led to the death of a man whose body was found in the middle of a Howell Township road on Friday.

In an update late Friday, Howell police said authorities were still trying to notify the man's family. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.

"We believe this to be a targeted incident with no additional threat to public," police said.

The man's body was found lying in the middle of Hurley Pond Road about 4 a.m. Friday, News 12 New Jersey reported. He was described as a young Hispanic man in a report by NBC 4 New York.

Authorities initially believed the man had been hit by a vehicle, News 12 reported.

Hurley Pond Road, which runs between Howell and Wall townships, was closed for more than 12 hours on Friday, the reports said.

Police and the Monmouth County prosecutor's office are asking the public to contact them with any information they think could be related to the man's death or how his body wound up in the road.
