Poopy diapers, bloody fingers, barfy car seats–I can do all of that. Sign me up. But lice? This is when I’m tempted to run for the hills. The thought of tiny bugs sucking blood from my kid’s scalp makes my skin crawl. I know that I’m not alone. When I told friends that my daughter, has lice many said, “Gross!” One responded, “We would never get lice because in our family we shower and wash our hair every day.” And one of my closest friends made it clear that her family wouldn’t be seeing our family for many weeks.
Though head lice pose no definite health threat, the bugs are a bane for children and adults alike.
I wasn’t surprised when my daughter came home from school with a few notices about lice cases in her class. It was a matter of time. And I was elated that Grandma was dealing with the problem. I was getting off easy. I had to only wash the bedding and clothing in hot water.

But the lice came back. And after doing research, I learned that the shampoo my mom used, RID, is no longer as effective as it once was. (I also learned that I never in a million years would have used the shampoo in the first place because it’s toxic and has all sorts of terrible side effects–so please, in the comments you don’t need to tell me that my child is going to get leukemia.)
