Property Tax Prepayments Prompt Office Hours Extension In Howell
Howell's tax collector's office will be open longer Friday; adjustments have been made to the online system as well.

HOWELL, NJ -- If you were hoping to pay your property taxes in person in Howell Friday, you have until 3 p.m. to do so, after the tax collector's office extended its hours.
In addition, the Howell tax collector said, its software company has made arrangements to allow property tax payments made Saturday, Dec. 30, and Sunday, Dec. 31, to reflect those dates of payment, for those seeking to prepay 2018 property taxes under the 2017 tax laws.
"Due to the extraordinary circumstances stemming from the changes in Income Tax laws, the Township manager requested that the Tax Collector’s office remain open until 3:00 pm on December 29," the tax collector's office announced.

The prepayment can only before the first and second quarters as billed, the tax collector's office said.
For those paying online, the tax collector's office said, "Be aware that once this payment is approved on the website, it cannot be cancelled."

"We cannot guarantee delivery of mail and are not responsible for delayed payments made in this manner. It is the burden of the taxpayer to provide proof of mailing to the IRS," officials said.
If you have a mortgage company responsible for paying your taxes, you must notify them of your intentions. It is also recommended that you discuss this issue with your tax preparer prior to making payments," officials said.
