Authorities Release Sketch Of Infant Girl Found At Recycling Center

As a local church prepares to bury the baby, dubbed Emma Grace, found in Farmingdale, new details are released in the search for her mother.

As members of the Ardena Baptist Church prepared to hold a funeral for a full-term infant girl whose body was found amid trash at a recycling center in November, new details in the ongoing search for her mother were released.

Detectives from the New Jersey State Police and Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office released a composite sketch of the full-term newborn infant, whose remains were discovered on Nov. 11 at the ReCommunity Recycling facility on Railroad Avenue in Farmingdale.

The baby’s body was discovered at approximately 1:30 p.m. by an employee of the facility, according to a news release from the state Attorney General’s office. It was headless, investigators said.

An exhaustive search of the surrounding trash led to the discovery of the infant’s head, two blood-stained blouses, and a bag from a retail store in the Orange area. The old blouses had no tags, but their size could be characterized as petite to medium, according to the release. Both the clothing and the bag are believed to be connected with the mother of the infant.

Authorities did not give details or a possible explanation for the baby’s condition.

Authorities said the autopsy by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office found evidence that suggests the baby breathed before she died, meaning the baby was not stillborn. But the cause and manner of death remain undetermined, they said.

She will be buried Saturday at 3;30 p.m. in a funeral conducted by the Ardena Baptist Church.

The State Police have spoken with an FBI profiling expert who believes if the mother of the infant is responsible for putting the baby’s body in a dumpster, she may have been trying to hide her pregnancy prior to giving birth. She might have been living a different lifestyle than she was accustomed to, and since the birth she may have resumed some of her more normal routines.

There has been no evidence at this time to point to the mother being a victim of foul play, authorities said, although the possibility has not been ruled out.

Emma Grace was was 21.5 inches, 7 pounds, and five ounces, authorities said. Based on hair characteristics, the baby is of mixed race, possibly Hispanic origin.

Anyone with information or who believes they may recognize the mother based on the sketch of the baby is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Francis Robina with the New Jersey State Police Major Crime Unit at (609) 882-2000 ext. 2538 or Detective Brian Weisbrot of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office at 1-800-533-7443.
