Republicans Claim Freeholder, Surrogate Races
County reports more than 98 percent of votes counted
As Election night 2011 winds down the Republican party has claimed wins in the race for Board of Chosen Freeholders and in the Surrogate race as well.
With just over 98 percent of all the votes counted Rosemarie D. Peters has a total of 61,786 votes, giving her a sizable lead over Democrat Michael Steinhorn who has 40,685 votes so far. There were also at least 124 write-in votes cast for the position as well.
In the Freeholder race Gary Rich was the top vote getter with a total of 54,686 cast in his favor. That put him just ahead of Lillian G. Burry who had 54,673 while the final votes were still being counted. For the Democrats, Amy Mallet was a distant third with 46,175 votes cast followed by running mate William Shea who received 43,231 votes.

Also in the Freeholder race Thomas Markowski received 5,397 votes while Patrick Noble got 1,384 votes. The Freeholder race also included 100 write-in votes.
County voters also came out decidedly in favor of the state question with 63,620 votes for the question and 28,089 in opposition.
