Trial Underway for Suspects in Killing of Former Howell Resident
George Anikow killed in November 2012

It has been more than four months since Maj. George Anikow was killed in the suburbs of Manila, Philippines. A State Department Official said the people believed to be responsible for Anikow's death are currently on trial on the island nation.
Anikow, 41 at the time of his death, was living overseas while his wife was an employee at the American Embassy in the Philippines. "We appreciate the efforts of the Philippine authorities in conducting a thorough and speedy investigation of this crime, promptly arresting and prosecuting the suspects, and in cooperating with us throughout the process," the official said.
A member of the Howell High School class of 1989 Anikow was no stranger to being overseas as he served in the Marines with duty assignments in Hawaii and an active duty tour in Afghanistan during his career.
