Want To Serve On Howell School Board? Tell Them Today

The deadline to notify the district you're interest in replacing Jeanne DePompo, who is resigning, is today, Tuesday, July 11.

HOWELL, NJ — If you are interested in serving on the Howell Township Board of Education, you have until Tuesday, July 11, to make your interest known.

The board is accepting applications to replace Jeanne DePompo, who is resigning.

The board published the notice July 5, then revised it July 7 with a date of Tuesday to apply for appointment to fill DePompo's seat. She was re-elected in 2015 and was in the second year of her three-year term.

"Any person interested in being considered by the Howell Township Board of Education to fill the vacancy which currently exists ... should send written/email (email preferred) notice of his/her interest, background information and/or personal statement, along with his/her full name, address and daytime telephone number to: Ronald Sanasac, Assistant Superintendent for Business Administration/Board Secretary," the official notice said.

The board is scheduled to meet Wednesday and potential replacement board members will be interviewed in public at the school board meeting, the notice said. The meeting at Howell Middle School North, 501 Squankum Yellowbrook Road, is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

To be eligible for the board opening, you must be a citizen and a resident of Howell and have lived in the township for at least one year, and "shall be able to read and write, shall be registered to vote in the district," the notice said.

The board intends to appoint a new member at the meeting, with that person serving until the January 2018 reorganization meeting. The remaining year of the term will be filled via election in November.
