Worker Critically Injured After Falling Two Stories At Howell Construction Site: Police

Breaking: The man suffered a serious head injury but is expected to survive, police said.

HOWELL, NJ — A construction worker was in critical condition Wednesday after he fell two stories through an opening at a house under construction on Cindy Court, Howell police said Wednesday.

The 39-year-old man from East Brunswick, who is being treated for a serious head injury at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, is expected to survive, Howell Police Chief Andrew J. Kudrick Jr. said.

The accident happened about 2:25 p.m. Tuesday, Kudrick said. The man was working on the second floor of the framed structure when he stepped backward into an open area, he said. The man fell from the second story into the basement and hit his head on the concrete floor, Kudrick said.

The rescue was complicated by the fact that the house is under construction. The basement stairs had not yet been installed, so rescue personnel had to get a ladder for a nearby home to reach the victim, Kudrick said. Once there, they treated him and then lifted him out of the basement using a Stokes basket.

They hoisted him out of a basement window opening and then took him to a medevac helicopter that was waiting across the street, Kudrick said.
