Jackson Fire District #2 Proposes Safety Initiative to Secure 4-Firefighter Staffing Standard
Vote for Upcoming Fire Budget Referendum on February 21st
JACKSON: Jackson Fire District #2 is announcing a new ballot initiative aimed at codifying a critical safety standard: ensuring that the fire truck operated by our career staff arrives at an emergency with four firefighters on board.
As our community grows and the complexity of emergency calls increases, the District is seeking voter approval to transition from a three-member response model to a staffing level that prioritizes not just resident safety but the safety of our on-duty firefighters.
The "Rule of Four": Why It Matters
Currently, the District relies on a mix of available personnel, with a current average volunteer response of five firefighters. While our team’s dedication is unmatched, modern safety standards—and the "Two-In, Two-Out" federal safety regulation—dictate that a crew of four is required to safely begin an interior fire attack.
Faster Intervention: Four-person crews allow for simultaneous search-and-rescue and fire suppression.
Safety First: It ensures that if a firefighter gets into trouble inside a burning building, a rescue team is already on the scene to help.
Proven Efficiency: National studies show that four-person crews complete essential on-scene tasks nearly 25% faster than smaller teams.
Proactive Prevention: More Than Just Extinguishing Fires
In addition to emergency services, the District’s Fire Bureau has seen a significant increase in its workload. With over 4,000 fire safety inspections, home resale inspections, permit inspections, and the delivery of fire safety education programs to the District’ s school aged children, there is a strong need for a full-time dedicated fire inspector.By increasing the frequency and depth of local inspections, Jackson is identifying hazards before they turn into emergencies. This proactive approach has already contributed to a decrease in preventable fire incidents across the district.Additionally, the Bureau gathers valuable preplan information for suppression staffs. All this leads to increased safety not only for the residents and visitors of the District but the suppression staffs themself
Know Your District
We understand that navigating local services can be complex. Jackson District #2 is unique in that it is served by both Cassville and Whitesville areas of Jackson. This often leads to confusion regarding which station responds to your home and where your tax dollars are directed.
