3 Attempted Robberies in 4 Days Gets 7 Years for Morris County Man

Crime spree spanned retail store, gas station, and bank in 2014, prosecutor says.

A Succasunna man who pleaded guilty to three separate counts of robbery has been sentenced to seven years in state prison, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp announced.

Derek Morisco, 23, was charged in two attempted robberies and one successful bank robbery during a four-day spree in the spring of 2014.

On March 31, 2014, Morisco entered the Harmon Discount Store on Route 10 in Succasunna, passed a note to the cashier, and demanded money. He then fled the store before receiving any money, Knapp said.

Two days later, on April 2, Morisco approached the Fuel 10 Gas Station on Route 10 in Succasunna on his bicycle, armed with a knife, Knapp said. He attempted to obtain money from the gas station attendant but was unsuccessful on numerous attempts trying to gain entry to the attendant’s booth, Knapp said. Morisco then fled the scene.

The following day, Morisco entered the Wells Fargo Bank on Route 10 in Succasunna, and passed a note to the teller demanding money, claiming he was armed. The teller gave Morisco $1,065 before he fled on foot.

Morisco’s sentence comes with no parole eligibility for the first 85-percent of the term.
