4 Major Morris Road Projects Coming in July, August

Alternate routes, detours may be put in place by local police departments.

Surf, sun, fun, and … asphalt.

Summertime in Morris County usually means all of the above, and with more than 30 miles of county roadways promised to be milled and paved this year, the work is continuing this month at a steady pace.

As July winds down and August kicks up, a handful of county road projects will be underway, according to the Morris County administration.

They include:

  • Center Grove Road, Randolph: The nearly one-mile project will run from Route 10 to School House Road, with milling set to start on or about July 23 and paving expected to begin the week of July 27. Motorists should expect some detours and travel delays. The contractor is Tilcon New York.
  • Canfield Avenue, Randolph and Mine Hill: The 1.1 mile project will run from Route 10 in Randolph through Randolph Avenue in Mine Hill, with basin work expected to start on the week of July 20 and milling and paving to be done on the week of July 27. Police traffic detours will occur as needed. The contractor is Topline Construction.
  • Blackwell Street, Dover and Rockaway Township: The thee-tenths of a mile project will run from Salem Street in Dover to Rockaway Road in Rockaway Township, with basin work expected to start the week of July 27 and milling and paving set to start the week of Aug. 3. There may be some detours and parking restrictions, and some possible traffic delays. The contractor is Topline Construction.
  • Watchung Avenue, Chatham Borough: The one-mile project will run from the bridge at the Union County border in Summit to LaFayette Avenue, with inlet work and ADA ramp work to start the week of July 27 and milling and paving to start the week of Aug. 3.There will be some detours and likely traffic delays. The contractor is Schifano Construction.

Proper signage and posting will be made near the impacted areas.

Other road projects already completed this year include Green Pond and Berkshire Valley Roads in Jefferson; Parsippany Boulevard in Parsippany; West Mill Road in Washington Township; and Old Denville Road in Boonton Township in Denville.
