Acme May Buy 2 A&P Stores, Doubling Business in Morris County

Supermarket chain looks to buy 35 of competitor's New Jersey locations after A&P files for bankruptcy protection.

Acme Markets has announced plans to buy 35 A&P, Pathmark, and SuperFresh grocery stores after that chains parent company filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this week.

Two of those A&P stores are located in Morris County on Berkshire Valley Road in Jefferson Township and East Main Street in Denville.

The purchase, if finalized, will double Acme’s presence in the county, where it has two stores in Randolph and Morris Plains.

“The offer is subject to customary legal and bankruptcy court approvals, following A&P’s Chapter 11 filing on July 19, 2015, including the potential for higher bids to be submitted and anti-trust approval. A&P has asked the court for an order requiring other bidders to submit their bids by September 11, 2015, with an expectation that court approval for the sale of the stores would be received by October 15, 2015,” Acme said in a statement.
