Do You Need E-book Help?

We can help you with your e-book reader.

Last week the Pew research center released a report, based upon a survey that said, "12% of all Americans aged 16 and older who read e-books have borrowed an e-book from a library in the past year."  So given the popularity of e-books and e-book readers, why aren’t more people borrowing e-books from the public library?

Here’s my answer – Many people find it difficult to get an e-book on to their e-book reader.  No matter where a person acquires their e-book, whether it is from Amazon, Barnes and Noble or the library, it is a challenge for a person with little computer
experience to load an e-book on to their e-reader.

Some public libraries make it easy to get e-books, by having pre-loaded e-books that can be borrowed from the library. For example, if you wanted to read the e-book edition of  "The Help" by Katherine Stockett , you would borrow the actual e-reader (i.e. Kindle, Nook, etc) with "The Help" already loaded on it.   No messy downloading is required.

Is an e-book reader pre-loaded with an e-book something you would like to borrow from the Jefferson Library? If so, please let us know by sending us an e-mail (jtpl@jeffersonlibrary.net) or by telephoning us at 973-208-6245.

In the meantime, if you are struggling with getting books onto your e-reader, let us know. The library has a collection of e-books for both the Kindle and the Nook and we would be glad to show you how you can borrow an e-book from the library and load it on to your e-book reader.
