October is Family History Month

A trait all Americans share, unless one is a Native American, is that we all have ancestors who immigrated to the United States.  October, Family History Month, is a great time to learn more about our ancestors.  And the Jefferson Township Public Library has all of the tools you need to research your family roots.

The Library has two tools that can provide a wealth of information about your family history:  Heritage Quest and Ancestry Online.

Heritage Quest can be used from your home computer.  All you need is your library card. To find Heritage Quest visit the library’s web-page at www.jeffersonlibrary.net and go to the Research Tools section.

Heritage Quest Includes:

  • A digital collection of over 20,000 Genealogy & Local History books
  • The U.S. Federal Census  from 1790-1930
  • Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty
  • Land Warrant Application Files

All of these documents can be easily searched and printed from Heritage Quest.

The second tool available from the Library is Ancestry Online.  Unlike Heritage Quest, Ancestry Online is only available on the library’s computers.

Ancestry Online is more comprehensive than Heritage Quest. It offers all of the documents available on Heritage Quest and it also includes birth and records, will indexes, church, court, and immigration records, as well as
record collections from Canada, Europe, and Australia. Ancestry Library also offers a robust search engine for comprehensive searching.

The Library also has many books on doing family history that can be borrowed with a library
card.

If you would like assistance using either Ancestry Library or Heritage Quest, just
telephone the library (973-208-6245) or send us an e-mail (JTPL@jeffersonlibrary)
and we will be glad to get you started on your family history project.

The Jefferson Township Public Library is located at 1031 Weldon Road and is open from 9:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Friday, from
9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturdays and from 1 – 5 p.m. on Sundays.
