European Hiker Found After Hours-Long Search in Morris County

Multiple agencies responded to Stephens State Park Sunday afternoon to find woman who lost her way, police report.

A lone hiker in Stephens State Park in Morris County went missing Sunday afternoon, and thanks to an hours-long manhunt involving several area agencies, the person was found safe and uninjured.

Around 1:30 p.m. Sunday Mt. Olive Police received a call from Reland Dorte Djorn, 46, of Denmark, who said she was lost, Sgt. Mike Cordileone said.

Mt. Olive police were dispatched to the park, along with members of the Budd Lake Fire Department, Budd Lake First Aid Squad, Morris County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit and the New Jersey State Park Police, as a unified command center was established searches were conducted.

After approximately three hours of searching the park, Djorn was located, Cordileone said. She was found uninjured but tired and thirsty. She was evaluated by the First Aid Squad and taken back to her vehicle.
