Official Rules, Such as They Are:
Contestants will be given a tray of ribs. After completing a tray, contestants will be immediately provided with another tray.
Eaters will not be required to totally clean each rib, but will be required to eat most of the meat off a particular rib before going to the next. Since the phrase “most of the meat” is subjective, here’s some guidance: most, if not all, of the bone should be clean.
Winner will be determined by the total amount of ribs cleaned. Cleaned will be determined by the judges.
Contestants must observe Picnic Style Rules, which means that the Ribs will be eaten according to tradition and meat should be removed from bone using teeth, tongue, lips and mouth and should not be taken off the bone with fingers and then eaten. Should an Eater be observed violating Picnic Style Rules he/she will be deemed in performance of a "picnic profanity" and will be penalized 5 ribs.
Accidental and/or incidental separation is allowed and may be eaten.
Sauce will be available to contestants to use as they wish to help the ribs go down. However, any contestant caught squirting sauce in the eye of another contestant will be disqualified and severely booed. Water will also be available.
Contestants who suffer a reversal of fortune and/or negative swallowing incident will be disqualified (and probably laughed at). Contestants must hold down the meat for a period of 30 minutes after the contest.
Potty breaks are not allowed.
The "Chipmunking Rule" will be in effect, which means that any meat placed in the Eaters mouth at the very end of the contest must be swallowed within 30 seconds. Contestants in violation of the "Chipmunking Rule" will be penalized 2 ribs.
In the event of a tie the winner or runner-up finishers will be determined by a three-minute "Eat off".
Creative participation is strongly encouraged but good sportsmanship is required at all times.
Decision(s) by appointed Judges is final. No whining or moaning.
All contestants are required to check in by 3:00PM the day of the contest. You can register the day of the event if there are any spots left.
