Heroin, Needles Charges For Lake Hopatcong Man Sleeping In Car: Police

Two men were sleeping in a Walmart parking lot when police found them.

FLANDERS, NJ — Two men were arrested after police found heroin and drug paraphernalia in their car, Mount Olive police said.

An officer was conducting a routine patrol of the Walmart parking lot Sunday night when he spotted a car with two sleeping men inside. One of the men, Eric R. Gesregan, 36, of Lake Hopatcong, was asked to step out of the car, police said.

After police saw multiple syringes in plain view, they asked the other man, Ian J. Carlson, 32, of Florham Park, to step out as well. After a search, police found multiple hypodermic syringes, multiple torn glassine baggies containing suspected marijuana residue, multiple glassine baggies containing suspected heroin, a wooden container holding suspected marijuana, a film container holding suspected marijuana, and multiple Suboxone sublingual films, police said.

Both men were arrested and taken to police headquarters.

Gesregan was charged with possession of heroin, possession of a hypodermic syringe, possession of paraphernalia, and possession of controlled dangerous substance of prescription drugs. He was also found to have a $100 warrant out of Jefferson Township. He was released with a pending court date.

Carlson was charged with possession of a syringe, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia. He was found to have a $2,500 warrant for his arrest out of Hopatcong, and was turned over to that police department.
