Jefferson Firefighters Save Dog From Smoke Filled Home

They responded to the Jefferson Museum for a separate incident at the same time.

JEFFERSON, NJ— Jefferson Township Fire Company #2 responded to two fires last night, including saving a dog from a smoke filled home.

Firefighters from Company #1 and #2 were responding to an electrical fire at the Jefferson Museum when a second call came in reporting a smoking home.

Company #2 went to the home, where smoke was pouring out. After hearing a barking dog inside and seeing that the homeowner wasn't home, firefighters broke in, Company #2 said.

The smoke was coming from a clogged pellet stove. Firefighters cleaned out the stove, aired out the smoke, and made sure the dog was okay before leaving. Jefferson Township Police waited from the homeowner to return.

"A busy 2 hours for us and a reminder to all firefighters that an alarm activation always has the potential to be something more and never 'routine.' This should also serve as a reminder to all residents that you should never leave stoves or fire places unattended," Jefferson Twp Fire Company #2 wrote on Facebook.
